Walleye
The Walleye bite right now is still a midsummer bite. During the day anglers have been targeting primarily deeper basins trolling around Crankbaits. If you have a Live Scope available to you, casting out Kalin's Tungsten Search Baits with a nightcrawler or a plastic on is a very effective technique this time of year. During the evening, folks still seem to be having luck in that 6-12 foot mark around the weed edges. You can either target them around the weed edges with a slip bobber rig or dragging a lindy rig right around the weed edge with a crawler.
Musky
The Musky bite has been hot this week, particularly in the Early Morning hours over other times of the day. Blades have been shining brightly above all the rest of the lure options. The blades that have been working particularly well are those with offset sizes of blades. Hunsytails and Uncle Al's Bucktails are two brands that stick out when you are looking for that offset blade option. The trolling bite this week has overall been a bit quiet. A quick note, the forecast is predicting a nice cooldown in the coming days. This could kick off an Early Fall pattern if things do not warm back up too much. By next weekend we can potentially see some really nice action particularly on surface baits.
Northern
Pike have stayed pretty consistent this week with very little deviation from the norm. The Pike are still cruising around the weedbeds and Tinseltails and Chatter Flashes are producing good numbers, but the size has still been relatively smaller.
Crappie
The Crappie bite has been solid all week. Bog fishing at night has still been the go-to tactic. But during the day, fishing the cribs and mid-depth weedbeds have been producing some nice fish as well. you should always have a bucket of Crappie Minnows on hand, but these last few weeks have really seen an uptick in activity on plastics–particularly the Gulp 1-inch Minnows and the Bobby Garland Mayflies.
Panfish
Bluegill action has been phenomenal this week! Deeper brush and holes with good cover have been producing very nice results. Anglers have been reporting consistently catching 8 inchers throughout the week with a few 9 inchers mixed in at times. Redworms, Pinched Crawlers, or Waxworms are all effective especially when combined with a Voodoo Custom Tackle Bugger Jig or Flashbang Jig.
Bass
Smallmouth action has been a bit slower this week, but that is in part due to less people fishing for them this week too. If you wish to target Smallies, head to the Southeast portion of the lake and work rock bars and stumps with Ned Rigs and Whopper Ploppers.
Weather
The weather this week looks to be very pleasant. We are going to be getting a cooldown which can potentially be awesome for fishing. Highs this week will be primarily ranging from the low 60s to high 60s all week. The lows will be ranging from the low 40s to low 50s at night. Expect a bit of rain on Sunday and Wednesday.
Water Temp at time of this report
73 Degrees
General
Preliminary Musky Sucker Report: Labor Day is right around the corner and usually we stock some suckers next weekend. We have received no information suggesting that suckers will be tough to get this year, however, we never count our chickens until they hatch. But for those that are eager to start sucker fishing we are planning to have Musky Suckers next weekend. We will make another announcement later this week on our Facebook page and next week's report confirming what will be available next week as it relates to suckers.
