Photo Contest Winners
Congratulations to the 2002 Chippewa Flowage Resort Association Photo Contest Winners! Over 230 photos were submitted. The winners received $300, $200 and $100 respectively. Winner photos will also be included on the sports show booth used by the L.C.F.R.A. and will include a photo credit line. All pictures entered become the property of the association for promotional use. Additional photos from the contest will be enlarged and also used on the sports show booth or in this edition of the Big Chip Guide.

First place was awarded to Sher Lawrence of Chetek, WI. The picture was taken on a crisp, foggy autumn morning in September. As Sher said, "Our son Chris and his friend Andy were out fishing ahead of us. We came upon them in this surrealistic setting. What a great picture opportunity!" Sher, her husband Bill and son Chris have been vacationing on the Chippewa Flowage for 17 years. They fell in love with the beauty and abundance of nature that they encountered here. They moved from northern Illinois to Chetek seven years ago. Although they now live on the chain of lakes there, they still eagerly anticipate their annual autumn trip to the flowage. They look forward to the fantastic fishing and spending time with the great friends they have made over the past 17 years. Sher concludes "There is a certain magic about the Flowage that continues to capture our hearts and imaginations."
Second place was awarded to Joe Piccione, from Grove City, Ohio. Joe has been visiting the Big Chip for 35 years, and always looks forward to musky fishing. He has made many lifetime friends in the area that he looks forward to visiting each year. His picture features two of his seven grandchildren, cousins Ryan Jones and Tony Piccione, feeding tame mallards by the shore. Joe’s kids try to come up every year if they can, although they gravitate more towards boating, water skiing, shopping and EATING OUT! Joe has just retired from his career as a printer. No wonder he has such a good eye with the camera!
Third place was awarded to Chris and Rick Zirk of Pigeon Falls, WI. Rick is a Grazing Lands Specialist with the U.S.D.A., while Chris spends her days in front of a computer monitor. They look forward to enjoying the lakeshore view. While not avid fishermen, they cherish the serenity of the lake and the Northwoods beauty and have been coming up for years. They especially relish taking their beloved labrador retrievers for swims. Their photography reflects the early morning tranquility, with the lone boat leaving the bay.
Thanks to everyone who entered the contest.
